If I was in charge of his defense, if I'm arguing in front of a bunch of US-based commies, I would just make one point:

"Show of hands, how many of you probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for his 2016 presidential campaign?". I imagine there would be a lot of hands raised.

Speaking for myself, I'm really disappointed in a lot of things about Bernie. Some past votes, some ways in how he handled himself in 2020, and how he's been pretty irrelevant since then. But in the big picture, these are pretty minor nitpicks versus what he contributed. His 2016 campaign really gave new energy to the left in the US. I wouldnt be here if it wasn't for him, and I bet that's true for a lot of us. I'll always be grateful to home for being an important waystation on my journey left.

I think he was an important part of a lot of peoples understanding of Us politics specifically. I’ll admit he got me active in his campaign and radicalized me once they fucked him. Part of the pipeline to communism for me sure.

I worry about people who stop there and don’t think more critically of the US and it’s politics. The succdems, the DSAers, dem soc, and stuff that doesn’t have a revolutionary aspect of it to dismantle capitalism.

My comment is more of a joke towards him, but still has some seriousness to politicians who actively are part of the bourgeoisie system.
