parents should have trained the kid to respect boundaries. Our son knows to stay away from shelves and the TVs. If they damage something then they need to be immediately taught about consequences without spanking. You can take away their allowance, prevent them from playing with toys, not allowed to enter rooms with fragile things, etc.
