Holy shit that's way more widespread than I'd have guessed. Deeply evil country
bud if you think this is just a problem in the old US of A, have I got news for you
this is damn near universal
Someone in the other spanking thread pointed out that there's research about these sorts of self-reported numbers, and... They come in pretty damn low if you can imagine that
I haven't looked through the paper yet, but does it give a criteria for what "spanking" is?
Wouldn’t you think at that point gee this approach isn’t fucking “working”
Whenever I see the word "spanking", I think, "lifelong inappropriate responses to negative situations".
How would you have liked your parents respond to your hyperactivity? How should parents deal with an hyperactive child, if they are being violent or damaging stuff like you said you did?
parents should have trained the kid to respect boundaries. Our son knows to stay away from shelves and the TVs. If they damage something then they need to be immediately taught about consequences without spanking. You can take away their allowance, prevent them from playing with toys, not allowed to enter rooms with fragile things, etc.
The only time I remember getting hit as a child was for playing with the stove, which, :shrug-outta-hecks:
I was watching something on TV where some kids were terrified about getting beaten by their mom because they broke a window.
That's obviously awful, but it made me realize something new that's fucked up about capitalism. If you are on the brink of homelessness, there's an odd logic to terrifying the fuck out of your kids for breaking material things. If it's a fucking window, that might kill months upon months of savings, or you might literally get evicted because you can't pay rent and repairs, and your children can get put into fucked up abusive situations. You might never see each other again, and any of you could die from that. Like literally just kids being rowdy is a life-threatening activity, like you're in a war zone.
