Opiate of the masses and whatnot. When all of the underpinnings of your social structure are being ripped away its not unthinkable to fall back on or cling to religeous faith.

I don't mean this as edgy atheism or anything but I feel like a similar thing is going on with Qanon and the religeous right currently.
