I consider Occupy to be an incredible success beyond what anyone could have hoped for. Why? Simply because it implanted the idea of "the 1%" and "the 99%" in Americans. I think it nudged class consciousness forward ever so slightly, which is good. The idea that Occupy would have toppled Wall Street or something is as fanciful as reactionaries thinking Jan 6th would have toppled the government.

Likewise, I generally am on the "AOC good" side because I have pretty low expectations. One rep out of 438 cannot do anything to improve material conditions of the working class or help move this country to socialism via legislation. The most she can reasonably do is plant ideas, shake loose some of the old red scare propaganda among young people, and maybe be someone who can help serve as an inspiration to young people who aren't politically engaged and maybe start pipelining them leftward (and especially a group who have every reason to feel more acutely disenfranchised than others , Hispanic women).

So by that measure, is the dress good or bad? Probably neither. Personally I think it's cringe but maybe it's something someone else gets a little bit of inspiration from, idk. So yeah it's "performative" but I guess that's ok?

I mean, it was also a mass mobilization event that galvenized thousands of people at once to take direct action collectively.

These events are always good and the people who organize them are heros. I just wish I was as familiar with folks behind Occupy as I am with various podcasters.
