Criticizing the dress is a waste of time and energy.

This comment is as well, but I'm not pretending it isn't.

Making decisions about what exactly is or isn't a waste of time to this level of detail is a waste of time and energy.

You get mad at stupid shit that doesn't matter. I get mad at random internet people for getting mad at stupid shit that doesn't matter. We are not the same.

I guess. Maybe it's more offensive to be performative when you're actually in a position of power rather than some schmuck poster tho

is being a congresswoman really that powerful of a position? she's in there with 400+ people plus 100 in the upper house.

maybe her performance is indicative of where the left really is politically :agony-deep:

it is barely a position of power, and yes, it is indicative of where the left is politically.

I consider Occupy to be an incredible success beyond what anyone could have hoped for. Why? Simply because it implanted the idea of "the 1%" and "the 99%" in Americans. I think it nudged class consciousness forward ever so slightly, which is good. The idea that Occupy would have toppled Wall Street or something is as fanciful as reactionaries thinking Jan 6th would have toppled the government.

Likewise, I generally am on the "AOC good" side because I have pretty low expectations. One rep out of 438 cannot do anything to improve material conditions of the working class or help move this country to socialism via legislation. The most she can reasonably do is plant ideas, shake loose some of the old red scare propaganda among young people, and maybe be someone who can help serve as an inspiration to young people who aren't politically engaged and maybe start pipelining them leftward (and especially a group who have every reason to feel more acutely disenfranchised than others , Hispanic women).

So by that measure, is the dress good or bad? Probably neither. Personally I think it's cringe but maybe it's something someone else gets a little bit of inspiration from, idk. So yeah it's "performative" but I guess that's ok?

I mean, it was also a mass mobilization event that galvenized thousands of people at once to take direct action collectively.

These events are always good and the people who organize them are heros. I just wish I was as familiar with folks behind Occupy as I am with various podcasters.
