Its so frustrating how much the showrunners were obviously checked out and/or totally incapable of writing anything without GRRM as a base because goddamn...the buildup of the white savior messiah figure being eventually unmasked as a horrific genocidal conqueror and the final villain of the show absolutely fucking OWNS on paper.
At the time I was salty, but in hindsight it's funny how blatant D&D (the showrunners) were about phoning in the last seasons. Their minds were on their Star Wars trilogy they were promised and the "what if the South won the Civil War" shit and BOTH of those got cancelled after the shitty season 8.
The fucked up thing is, they're perfectly capable of writing/producing decent television with someone else's source material. The Always Sunny episode "Flowers for Charlie" is a goddamned classic.
i hated how they wrote dany's turn as from "madness" and sudden grief, when in book 5 she's literally too fucking passive as a queen to even handle terrorists in her own city with one of the best armies in the world.
The part at the end of book 5 probably represents her beginning to turn, which combined with an actually fed up/evil tyrion nearby could be just :chefs-kiss: to read if GRRM actually pulls it off. But the show execution jfc....
