That's what I kind of like about this instance. If it's not 4-6 comments, it's a 200 comment deep struggle session with some rando from a space travel socialism TV show themed instance arguing against AES countries.

I always enjoy when the people from the space socialism show come here and are like "socialism bad", it tickles me every single time. Roddenberry's wife said he was a hardcore maoist and saw the chinese conception of socialism as the ideal.

Roddenberry's wife said he was a hardcore maoist

I've heard people say this a few times, but I haven't ever been able to find where it comes from. Sauce?

The only source I have ever seen for it is "it was said at a local convention" published by an american radio station.

I doubt video of it exists.

There is very little reason to doubt it though given that it reaaaaaally tracks with pretty much everything. Especially what would have been extreme progressiveness for the period. Well beyond any god forsaken liberals of the period. Not to mention the structure of star trek's humanity or its other hints of politics.

Maoist in the sense of western New Left Maoists, sure. But idk I can never shake the feeling that Rodenberry was a radlib at his core
