Do it, imagine the international outrage if a US soldier defected to NK.
"Our sources say the soldier's last word to their commanding officer were - 'Juche gang, Juche gang, Juche gang.'
lmao genzedong zoomers join the military to do exactly this challenge 2021 :juche-boi:

What the fuck is South Korea? To my recollection, there's just Korea, and American-occupied Korea.
Unironically I think the "join the service, see the world" propaganda is probably the most potent next to the GI bill. I almost joined out of high school because of it. Glad I did some research and learned what the military really does.
gotta love the "i've been to GI bars and brothels on every continent. i'm worldly." line that troops come home with. these clowns can spend years in a country and never learn more than 2 words of the local language, but they'll come home and act like an accomplished ethnographer.

My buddy joined the Coast Guard and got some pretty neat travel out of the deal. Seems like if you were going to pick a branch, you probably won't kill anyone in that one.
coast guard does a fuck load of drug interdiction and has been on the front lines of intercepting boat people fleeing right-wing Caribbean regimes.
