    -ski is a polish name suffix for male surnames (women from the same family would be named Staroselska, but German law struggles with recognizing gendered naming conventions from Slavic languages). A lot of Germans have Polish ancestry. Either because their families migrated to Germany during the industrial revolution or because they moved to Germany after the wall came down.
