T-55s are still used today. The abrams have a training sabot round made of an aluminum penetrator that can technically take them out as if it was a regular combat round

Does anyone have any good sources about the Hungarian uprising? It seems to be very difficult to find information about, other than there was a student-lead uprising, and then tanks happened.

Hungarian sources would be fine too, because I'm learning Hungarian atm anyway

IDK if this is true or not, but if so:

"No I'm a communist too, I just want to remove the (((authoritarians))) from power! Nooooooooooooooo" :pit:

Ah, I assumed the CIA would have something to do with it, but I forgot that MI6 was still a big player at the time.

Also yes, Hungary was and is, from what I've heard, a surprisingly anti-semitic country.

I like this from the Wikipedia articles on the Hungarian uprising:

In 1949, the leader of the Hungarian Catholic Church, antisemitic Cardinal József Mindszenty, was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment for treason. Under Rákosi, Hungary's government was among the most repressive in Europe.

On 3 February 1949, Mindzenty's show trial began. The Cardinal admitted to being involved in a Habsburg restorationist organization which planned to form a government after an American invasion, however he denied hoping for the outbreak of war. He said "we prayed for peace".

Socialist Hungary was so evil and repressive they arrested an antisemite for trying to restore the monarchy and start a civil war.
