how do you view it then? browser extension? On desktop it just redirects to a page asking for login.
On Firefox? Maybe you're in a B group and getting an even more heavy-handed dark pattern than most rn.
i noticed it happened to me on reddit mobile firefox (fennec).
I can't view any comment thread from a subreddit not on r/popular or r/all without it telling me to download the app, so i've been using libredd.it whenever i want to view any threads on my phone.
Maybe it's a firefox tracker thing, they can't get a rough idea of who I am so they ask for an account to advertise better idk

There is a firefox extension called privacy redirect that will do this for you automatically.
