There was this, for starters. One of the surviving Marxist-Leninist revolutionaries in Peru stated this year that he believed Guzmán was CIA funded. Peruvian fascists flipped the fuck out and got him removed from Castillo’s government.
Also the amount of other socialists/communists the Shining Path massacred was obscenely high. It’s almost like that was a priority for them in addition to murdering whole villages of indigenous people. :curious-marx:
If they somehow weren’t CIA funded, then they worked for free. I’d almost believe that was possible because Guzmán was an egotistical chode and a complete disgrace to Maoists everywhere.

The question to ask with Guzmán is, “would a CIA plant have acted any differently?”
There have been dozens and dozens of people's wars or revolutionary insurections and movements and so a people's war and "leftist" revolutionary movements can be shit or turn to shit without being CIA. Shining path's shitty leadership and glorifying of revolutionary violence led them to increasingly bad decisions and actions that they doubled down on culminating to losing support of peasants and rural communities. Making up shit because it would be cool no movement would ever commit those mistakes during the revolution only serves to brush off the mistakes made as "cia plants lol" and "no ACTUAL leftist movement or evolution did bad or horrible things EVER"
