Roughly 30 teens referred to Rush University Medical Center in the past year displayed a range of involuntary actions, from jerking arm movements to curse words to head and neck twitches. Self-injurious behavior was common, according to some doctors, with many patients displaying bruises and abrasions resulting from their tics. Caroline Olvera, a movement-disorders fellow, noticed that numerous teens were saying the word “beans,” often in a British accent. Even patients who didn’t speak English were saying it. Some patients mentioned they had seen TikTok videos of others with tics.

Heinz baked beans. It's an absurdly appropriate emoji:

    • ✅ Beans
    • ✅ British
    • ✅ Psychology (thonk)

Try making a small batch of slow cooker/dutch oven Boston baked beans. It's parboiled navy beans cooked with molasses and bacon, usually some diced onions and black pepper. It's less runny than canned beans and has a deep smoky-sweet flavor where the molasses is nowhere near as sweet as brown sugar.

Bush's and Heinz make a low sugar variety now that is almost indistinguishable from the normal Heinz Beanz brand sold in the UK.

Not gonna defend shitty canned beans here but I will absolutely defend sweet beans, specifically Boston style baked beans. They're piss easy to make if you have a slow cooker or oven-safe pot like a Dutch oven, and molasses is way less sweet than brown sugar.

For some reason their baked beans originate in the UK even though the company is American.

"In 1886, Heinz Baked Beans were first sold at the Fortnum & Mason department store in London."

Mr Ambassor, with these baked beans you are spoiling us.
