They're an invasive species that is currently thriving in the lake and fucking royally with the local ecosystem
The waste dumping basically killed off anything in the lake that would have gone after them and they cause lots of problems for the boaters (yay) and the municipal water treatment facility
Not enough to counteract the tons of waste being dumped into the lake
And despite having one of the best water treatment facilities on the Great Lakes, you can't exactly treat water when all the intake pipes are clogged with the little things
They're awful. They infest pipes so any pipe that feeds in to the river gets stopped up. They cause massive harm to indigenous wildlife. They're incredibly tenacious and there's no way to kill them once they're established short of like... rendering the entire body of water incapable of supporting multicellular life. And they're fucking everywhere now.
Reminds me of what happened to Lake Michigan when that ham demon got elected governor and let all the farms dump their waste into the lake
Gotta love those algae blooms, mass fish die-offs and zebra mussels
Ah The Simpsons movie IRL, didn't know about it. What with the zebra mussels? They also died?

Oh fuck. What problems those things cause? Thought they cleaned the water.

attach to everything
You also can't go barefoot in any body of water that has them because they are razor sharp and are attached to fucking everything on the bottom.
