While I agree with the general sentiment, Larry Kramer was HIV+ so that doesn't fully fit this idea that only the bores did not become HIV+. I guess you could make the point that the bores were more careful and hence stayed alive for longer.
He was poz, but his suggestion to prevent spread was to close all bathhouses and to stop fucking. He took an extremist, puritanical position that was not borne out by the data. But a lot of the folks who survived were either lucky, monogamous, conservatives, or closeted.
