The one scene in this game I really liked is

when Jason and Salim find the alien caverns for the first time and just look out at the view and talk. Jason revealing that he didn't even know about 9/11 until a week after it happened and just joined up because he wanted to "be a part of something" really drives home the performative nature of the jingoistic oorah marine behavior he displays. Salim getting to talk more about his son was cute, and even if the whole "the last thing my son hears from me might be that I'm angry" conceit is trite it still got me.
Kinda says a lot about the game when normal development and characterization is the standout moment...

Sorry, but the themes just don't fit the reality.
