I knew nothing about them other than Tubthumping, had no the whole album was about class conflict.
I looked them up last night because of the thread about the queen probably being dead mentioning them
Same
OMG Chumbawamba has always been fucking awesome.
Listen to their english rebel songs, farewell to the crown, give an anarchist a cigarette, and enough is enough
The chorus in Give an Anarchist a Cigarette is great. And when the queen finally dies I'll be blaring Farewell to the Crown at max volume.
I was blaring it yesterday after talking to my mom about how the queen is totally dead and just being propped up like Philip.
trolling. Though I do think that when she dies they will hide it from the public for a week or so
No they weren't always secretly cool, because it wasn't a secret
EDIT: I actually like the live version better
I get you. Discovering how based Chumbawamba is was magical. I personally love We Don't Go to God's House Anymore.
The new documentary about them features Jeremy Corbyn and Ken Loach - https://hexbear.net/post/114298

incidentally if anyone knows which album this recording was on i'd appreciate it. i know they had an a capella version on A Singsong and a Scrap.
Farewell to the crown - an “unofficial official bootleg” the band put out after tubthumping. They made it themselves, paid for the printing and then denied they did it when EMI asked about it.
Always cool. My brother bought their album was Tubthumping was big. Listened through the album once and looked through the book that came with the CD. I could tell they were leftists or socialists of some kind but since this was the 90s and I was a kid I had no idea what that actually meant.
