They don't think past the immediate damage to the slim majority - to what electoral value there would be in actually doing things when they have power, of how effective that would be for recruiting, etc.
Seriously, it’s like these people don’t understand the basic concept of what a political party is. It’s not just a label you get to decide for yourself. A functional political party has a platform, and gets its members to vote for that platform. If you don’t act as a member of the party, you get kicked out. That’s the WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF A PARTY.
