    Regretting looking it up and one of the top results being a reddit thread where all of the comments are saying he killed his wife for money or something.

        Yeah I remember when his wife passed but wasn't aware of people saying he must have been purposely plying her with drugs or was a neglectful husband. None of them ever seem to bring up she had heart complications that they weren't aware of until after she died. Just some of the most miserable, hateful people.

    Poor Patton, he seemed like he really loved his wife. And he's struggled a lot with his own mental health, so I can only assume she was an indelible influence on keeping him grounded. And he has a daughter to raise.

    His wife wrote "I'll Be Gone in the Dark", a true crime book about the Golden State Killer, and she died right about the time she finished it (iirc, it was an accidental overdose brought on by untreated addiction). He wrote the afterword.
