Hari Pahlawan (Indonesian for Heroes' Day) is a Remembrance Day annually celebrated on 10 November in Indonesia. The day commemorates the 1945 Battle of Surabaya, in which pro-independence Indonesian local community, as well as soldiers and militia fought against British and Dutch troops as part of the Indonesian National Revolution.

The Battle of Surabaya was fought between regular infantry and militia of the Indonesian nationalist movement and British and British Indian troops as a part of the Indonesian National Revolution against the re-imposition of Dutch colonial rule. The peak of the battle was in November 1945. The battle was the largest single battle of the revolution and became a national symbol of Indonesian resistance. Considered a heroic effort by Indonesians, the battle helped galvanise Indonesian and international support for Indonesian independence.

By the time the Allied forces arrived at the end of October 1945, the Pemuda ("youth") foothold in Surabaya City was described as "a strong unified fortress". Fighting broke out on 30 October after the British commander, Brigadier A. W. S. Mallaby was killed in a skirmish. The British retaliated with a co-ordinated sweep that began on 10 November, under the cover of air attacks. Although the Colonial forces largely captured the city in three days, the Republicans fought for three weeks.

Despite the military defeat suffered by the Republicans, the battle and defence mounted by the Indonesians galvanized the nation in support of independence and helped garner international attention. For the Dutch, it removed any doubt that the Republic was not simply a gang of collaborators without popular support. They were a revolutionary army; one that would drive out the Dutch 4 years later.

I'm not a wrecker but I pretty well avoid anything pumpkin spice. It's just not my thing. But I love it if you love it because fuck the wreckers.

Try pumpkin spice stuff made with actual pumpkin. Way yummier and you can tell why it got popular as a flavor!

I appreciate you trying to make me crossover to the dark side, but I'll pass. I like maybe one slice of pumpkin pie a year.

(I found the article you posted interesting by the way)

Where do they think most of those spices came from? Pretty sure it’s not Europe…

Like cloves + allspice, along with ginger and/or nutmeg and other sweet or savory seasonings, is used in so much stuff. Like meat sussages, garam masala, ragus, etc. It's just not called "pumpkin spice" when there's no pumpkin lol.

I think they're just allergic to flavour

It is sexism but can we not act like the experience of white women is universal? The people being made fun of for liking pumpkin spice lattes are white women 99% of the time. It does not apply to me at all as a woman of color and theres no need to bring race into it

It's more of a response to a wrecker saying that anyone that disagreed with them had to be white,

Yeah it doesn't make any sense without context so I'll remove it
