    In the original game it said the bridge only took up 1 mb of disk space.

    Very likely the reason why is because they needed to compress files to get the game to fit on the disc.

    You shouldn’t need to make the bridge 38 times bigger on disk space to make it look better.

    The amount of disc space textures take up balloons very wildly. And this is before we get into how uncompressed textures are actually better for loading times and performance optimizations.

        it's because that if the file is uncompressed, then your computer doesn't have to spend resources to uncompress it first before loading it. This is one of the reasons a lot of games lately have been ballooning in filesizes, the other is not having 4k (and/or 8k) textures as an optional download, though with the later devs are getting better about that.
