So I'm torn on this situation today. I'm buying beer and for the first time, the cashier asks me to take my mask off so they can ID me. I had just walked all over the store touching shit so I said no I don't want to. They said well you have to or I can't sell you this beer. Thinking the cashier was just being a punk, I said get your manager please lmao I've never done that before. Manager comes over and tells me I have to remove my mask to buy alcohol. I hate confrontation so I just pinch it and pull it off my face, but then I feel like a dick because I made this kids night harder when he has to work in a fucking grocery store because his parents are probably psychopathic "work ethic" boomers. I should have just asked for hand sanitizer tbh, but it was fucking annoying.
that wage slave is gonna think you were a dick for like 10 minutes and then completely forget you ever existed. He probably got like 90 customers that day that refused to wear masks at all so at least you were trying to be decent.
I was being a pain about wanting to wear my mask, which I guess is sort of funny. Let me keep it on don't make me touch my face please I just want my Hamms. It also reminded me how much of a physiological stress response I get during mild confrontation. I've been isolating for months and yeah that shit just gets worse.
The virus is transmitted through air droplets. Pulling down your mask briefly to be seen is no big deal. Just don't inhale while you do so if you want to be safer.
It was more about touching the mask after touching all of the packaging and shit. I usually have sanitizer in my pocket but didn't have any and they didn't have a bottle at the checkout.

His manager probably took note that he was enforcing the bullshit policy and liked that. He's the enforcer now.
at my workplace i just blatantly ignore anyone not wearing a mask while I toil around on my phone and somehow i havent got bitched at by management
