I've been vegetarian all my life and I still find it extremely hard to give up dairy (due to economical, logistical, but, most importantly, palatability reasons). I can't imagine how difficult it must be for folks who've grown up on a meat-heavy diet.
I grew up on a meat-heavy diet. I literally just quit using animal products. It's literally so fucking easy. All you have to do is realize that you have absolutely no right to take part in the wide-scale murder of trillions of innocent creatures. When you actually internalize that you just stop.
Its easier if your parents were terrible at cooking. I haven't gone full veg/vegan but I find it incredibly easy to avoid meat if i'm eating at home. Restaurants are another matter.
I went vegetarian because I was too lazy for meat. You either need to comitt to using it within 1 - 2 days after buying, or else freeze it, which means there's now even more planning involved to use it, unless you like watery microwave meat which I always did think no animal deserves to die for that
what I'm saying is vegan food is incredibly convenient because it all keeps forever. I'm not entirely convinced vacuum-wrapped tofu actually has an expiration date
