A paiza or paizi or gerege (Middle Mongolian: Гэрэгэ, Mongolian: Пайз, Persian: پایزه pāiza, Chinese: 牌子 páizi) was a tablet carried by Mongol officials and envoys to signify certain privileges and authority. They enabled Mongol nobles and officials to demand goods and services from civilian populations.
Had a go with Age of Empires 4, having found the Mongols the most fun I mastered them to some degree and they had these neat educational videos about them, including the dope ass courier system called the Yam that used a similar medallion that enabled couriers to acquire food and horses at stations to ensure smooth administration.
