The joys of retail
Christmas has been ruined for me. I barely participate. The season is associated with horrible customers, an out-of-control busy season, and repetitive music.
Fucking retail.
yep these same thoughts go through my head every year. i'm happy my store has not switched the music over yet (likely out of laziness) this year. either way i fucking hate the holidays it's just overworked misery each year.
I love Christmas music, and the years I worked at Kohl's definitely took a serious toll on my enjoyment of the holiday in general, and Christmas music in particular. I don't know what to tell you to help you get through--I tried to cling to nice moments, like when I could help someone who was nice to me find something that they were happy with. Lots of confused old people would wander through the store saying "My grandchild says they want _____ and I don't know what that is," so it was always nice to help them find something I thought the kids would like. Stuff like that helped me to keep a little holiday spirit and not completely lose my mind, but it's definitely tough out there. Lots of people treated me like shit, so I just tried to find them something, ANYTHING, as quickly as possible and get them out of my vicinity as quickly as possible. Godspeed.
The thing that I can't stand is that there's only a couple dozen popular songs but a nearly infinite amount of covers. And I honestly can't stand it when it's not the version I actually like. My store had some off brand version of the Grinch song and I hate it. Give me the old one damnit.
When that baritone backing vocalist comes in with the "CHRISTMAS COMES THIS TIME EACH YEAR" part, I always picture it being a really dumb guy who just figured out how calendars work.
Actually, I've found it isn't too bad this year because I've got way too much to do and don't have time to stop and listen to the music. It melds into the general hum of the store.
