"Peng Shuai denies claims she was sexually assaulted" is a pretty odd way to say "Peng Shuai continues to emphasize that she was not sexually assaulted, as she has been doing the entire time".

as noted here, the allegation was invented by the NYT. that post links to this translation of her original post on r/tennis: https://np.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/qmn69a/full_translation_of_peng_shuais_weibo_post/

Sounds like a shitty situation, but the people in the comments who keep posting the Google Translate and insisting that it proves something are pretty sad themselves.

As far as I know it was an incorrect translation/media making it up, and she never alleged sexual assault - just that they had an affair and she felt used.

r/Sino was claiming that it never got professionally translated, which does seem possible. The rest of reddit is predictably losing their minds because of the big evil PRC CCP Xi Jinping authoritarian dictatorship.

Following the original post, she has been consistent in denying that she made a sexual assault claim in the first place. She doesn't deny the existence of her post or her authorship.

The first time she spoke publicly after the original post was in an email to the WTA (reported by CGTN) where she explicitly says the sexual assault allegation is untrue.

The typical western white knight response would be “who’s making you say that”, of course.

Typically I just straight up ask the lib in question "What exactly could be done that would convince you that you were wrong". Because when she was "disappeared" and appeared in public several times, and met with the Olympic comission guy, people were still claiming that it was all an op by the government.

The NYT headline on this reminds me of the Onion's "Elvis Dead! Is Elvis Alive?"

"Chinese Tennis Player Denies Sexual Abuse Claim, Raising More Questions" https://archive.md/7KUqW
