Anyone ever make homemade baklava? Are there any good recipes out there? Interested in trying my hand at one of my favorite desserts
Wife says just about any recipe you can find should be fine. Layering the sheets of phyllo is time consuming and as other commenters have mentioned, extra hands are very helpful.
Recipe that we used was from an edition of The Joy of Cooking we've got a copy of. Here's one I found on libgen. (I haven't downloaded this or looked through it, just trying to be a bit helpful.)
Yes and I fucked it up by letting the syrup get too runny by trying to mix juice into it.
You can dick around with basbosa and it will turn out just fine, but baklava is a more exact dish.
Maybe some day, but right now I’m just gonna buy the phyllo
I was about to say "hats off" for taking up that monumental task but no shame is buying the premade phyllo.
Haha maybe someday, right now I just want to get the baklava down
Hey! Sorry to come back to this like a month later, but I was wondering if you had any suggestions or recipes for making phyllo. I had made the baklava recipe you suggested, and it was really good, and I was gonna try to take it one step further
We were never brave enough to try to make phyllo from scratch, so I've got nothing very helpful to pass on.
Though I'd look through the "Joy of Cooking" for a phyllo recipe from scratch, as a start. :shrug-outta-hecks:
Years and years ago, yeah. It was great, but a bit of work. Helps to have someone help you with all the layering. I woul just buy phyllo dough rather than trying to make that yourself. Something tells me it's a little more complicated than your usual pastry crust.
