First off wow, what a good movie, it was a very good satire of the whole covid-19 situation, climate change, and a whole other bunch of looming catastrophes. The main gist of the story is people are willfully ignorant until the truth is right in front of them. It reminds me a lot of Idiocricy, Dr Strangelove, or The Network in tone, honestly I think it's gonna be a cult classic in the future when we can look back at the events of 2020 in a less biased way.

So to get into the juicy bits, Leonardo DiCaprio's character basically lies to everyone despite knowing the truth for profit. I don't think you can watch this movie and not make the connection, did Fauchi not lie about the masks or the lockdowns or about covid? He used his fame for the worse, hell everyone in power in this movie lies for their own benefit. The Trump character is a woman who is completely owned by private interests, there's the Steve Jobs clone that essentially wants the asteroid to hit Earth for the minerals on it, the slimy news reporters who are more concerned about bullshit stories than the literal end of the world, the celebrities who are so brain dead they sing about how they are gonna die because they can't do anything about it.

It was one giant satire about the sorry state of the world and honestly it makes you want to pick up a gun and shoot someone with a blue checkmark on twitter, if that wasn't the message of Don't Look Up I don't know what you were watching, better than the matrix, I get it 5 pepperoni nipples.

One of the more annoying aspects of the movie is the America-Centric nature of the plot.

While Americans are jerking it to their President, the rest of the planet has to just kinda patiently wait for White People to do something.

I guess it might have been too optimistic an ending, but I wonder if maybe they should have pulled a bait and switch and have China or someone else successfully deflect the asteroid randomly at the 11th hour....and then have the American government declare war over it or something. May have been a funny dissection and subversion of disaster movies to have the main characters feel like they're at the center of this world ending disaster only to realize that they aren't even really the protagonists or all that important at all.

A very Much Ado About Nothing ending, with the rest of the world celebrates while Americans continue to submerge themselves in celebrity gossip would have been a nice twist.

Just having a low keep "real heros were in the background the whole time" motif could have been a fun gag.

"We did everything we could." -people in this movie who very much didn't try to overthrow the government and instead basically ran a superpac. Honestly can't tell if that was supposed to be a commentary on the state of things and how there's a line people won't cross regardless of how high the stakes are, or were they just trying to avoid giving people ideas?

IMO, It's not so much that he's used his fame for the worse as much as he just sucks. He's overseen the biggest pandemic response disaster in world history (on top of the AIDS pendemic, so this isn't his first rodeo). Just a month ago this jackass was on the news saying "we're still waiting for more information, but we're optimistic that Omicron won't be so bad," basically giving everyone a green light to cough all over the Christmas roast. Everything that comes from this guy is glass half full bullshit and half measures and by now it has cost millions of lives (considering Covid doesn't respect international borders).

It is the media which has turned him famous and used his fame for the worse. Liberals are pathetic, socially deactivated barnacles. They need a champion so they have somebody to root for and light Advent candles for while they keep their asses glued to the couch. Fauchi is their champion. It has less to do with him than the absolute state of desolation we find ourselves in though.
