    1. There will probably be a new strain, especially if it is as widespread as "everyone will get it"
    2. When there is a new strain, the state actually acting to prevent the spread will be necessary.
    3. We’ll have to fight to end many restrictions

This is the brainworms baying for treats. There are no restrictions. A handful of cities have implemented tepid mask and vaccine mandates. Capital wants things running like usual and it has decided that throwing us to the wolves is an acceptable cost of that rather than limiting production or consumption. Most likely as soon as hospitals slow down mask mandates will be lifted. This point gives the whole game away though. Our author is begging for a "normal" world free of this disease without having to do anything to end it. It's one thing to say that it's too late to do anything about Omicron, but the virus will not just go away of its own accord. Maybe some of the treatments they are developing will be sufficient enough to make it bearable but who can afford them? Will the global south be able to afford them or will new treatment resistant strains develop there and migrate into the global north?

Only a global revolution or the dumb fucking luck of the Spanish Flu will end this pandemic. All we can act towards is the former. A people's war against the virus is needed if we ever want to end it, otherwise it will be a constant blight upon the poor people of the world and without the poor, the rich will suffer as well.

Yup, in terms of new strains he doesn’t even talk about recombination of Delta/Omicron, which given both are extremely prevalent is making me :scared: right now
