One of mine is a can of beans, a tablespoon of mayo and a tablespoon of tapatio.
Overnight oats is worth knowing about: you put the milk in the oats the day before and let it sit, using time instead of heat. It's just as good and by not using heat you score Thunberg Points.
I make my own weird kind of goulash. It's elbows, onion, green pepper, hamburger and 4 cans of stewed tomatoes. Fry up the hamburger and the onion and peppers, boil the pasta, throw it all together in a big pot on the stove for a half an hour to an hour to simmer. Granted I don't have a sophisticated pallet but it's cheap and makes a lot, I add italian seasoning and salt and pepper to taste. The most expensive part is the hamburger.
Replace the hamburger with canned chili beans and you've got my version. I'll also throw in whatever hot sauces are on hand plus some velveeta if I'm feeling cheesy
So I've been broke enough to lick spoonfuls of vegemite to stave off hunger pangs, but I wouldn't consider that a meal. Same with spoons of peanut butter or microwaved potatoes.
atm, it's a cheese toastie with reheated spinach. Cheese, bread, and frozen spinach are all quite cheap in bulk, and you get calories and nutrients and fibre. Microwave the frozen spinach for 90 seconds, use that 90 seconds to butter the frozen bread and heat up the sandwich press. Pretty quick.
It was mi goreng for a while. Add spinach, an egg, idk whatever.
S tier instant noodle, been craving some for years and haven't been able to track any down since I moved out to the sticks
Stovetop mac and cheese but from scratch. Cover elbows with just enough water to barely cover them, boil the water down to cook the pasta, then add evaporated milk when most of the water is gone. When the evaporated milk starts bubbling, add shredded cheese of your choice, as long as they melt well (the cheese can obviously be cheap or expensive depending on what you get). Cook over your lowest heat until the cheese is fully melted and incorporated. Add a little cayenne, mustard powder (or a teaspoon of dijon), and a tiny bit of nutmeg.
Just fyi there's a pinned post in c/food for simple cheap foods, for anyone interested.
PB&J tortillas are a time honored depression classic. When you're tired of eating spoonfuls of peanut butter from the jar and want something fancy.
Baked potatoes with bean chili, rice and peas. I grew up on spam sandwiches and bean and corn salad.
ramen with eggs and veggies added. i usually like broccoli
sometimes i have a ginger salad with extra protein added. recent ate it with seitan and it was pretty good. seitan with any extra sauces is pretty solid
