I think they are playing into the propaganda of our government and are speaking of Armia Krajowa and not the Nazis. Don't get me wrong though, the fuckers were a nationalist force in the country with a lot of blood on their hands.

In our country they tend to be called "Żołnierze Wyklęci" ("Cursed Soldiers"), because of how they were treated by the socialist government. But no one really talks about Armia Ludowa nowadays, they've been forgotten and cast out. I call them Disinherited Soldiers, and consider them to be the more influential group fighting for liberation as they did so alongside the soviets.

Do people understand the Warsaw uprising was done in an attempt to create a polish government separate from the Soviets?

I feel like all the focus is on Stalin not rescuing them, which they wouldn’t have even wanted if they were winning.

Oh yes that I know, you already mentioned that people mostly focus on the soviets not sending help and are most often portrayed as "backstabbing bastards". But what is overlooked, is that if the soviets did help them, AK would've betrayed them sooner or later. They are liked by the current government precisely because they were anti-communist "underdogs" fighting for a "free" Poland.

Even the London Government military leader, gen Anders, straight up pointed on that with clear condemnation.

Also interesting fact: communist resistance forces did partcicipated in the Warsaw Uprising, even though it was politically aimed against them, because they couldn't just stand aside where others were fighting the nazis. Something (standing aside) that AK had no problem whatsoever doing (AK had up to 390.000 members in summer 1944 of which only small fraction fought).

About not helping, Soviet Army just finished Operation Bagration, biggest offensive in human history up to this point. They were in no condition to suddenly assault major city defended by numerous and well dug in enemy forces.
