No its not like that at all. They knew you were well covered so they know insurance will pay out the ass for whatever they do to you. The for profit medical system is evil but pragmatically evil. They'd rather suck off that sweet fat corporate insurance money than try to bleed the last dollar out of you directly. Its way easier for the hospital that way. The insurance company just pays the invoice. The average broke individual without insurance can't/won't pay. The hospital then has to go to small claims court or a collection service to get anything.
