      It's really fucking irritating because we had SARS and MERS (which are both coronaviruses fairly closely related to covid, especially SARS-1 which could under some criteria be essentially considered a Covid variant.) and epidemiologists were screaming at everyone that this was going to happen and literally the only country that planned for it was China.

      We got so fucking lucky that the version of Covid we did get didn't have a 25% death rate like MERS.
