So, I know that there's been some buzz about the upcoming Victoria 3 strategy game. So far, the game looks very materialist in its approach to politics and history, and there's already content for socialist states.
When it comes to modding, I see a lot of interest for total conversion alternate history mods, but less for mods to model historical systems and events in more detail. Based on what you've seen so far, I curious what you think would be good ideas for event chains, subsystems or tweaks from a left-wing perspective?
For example, if it's not currently in the game, it'd be fun to have dynamic event chains related to the rise and fall of the workingman's international, a dynamic event system for the Paris Commune (allowing communes to rise up in other working-class dominated cities in times of crisis) , and making sure that there's a way for events similar to the post-WWI socialist revolutions to occur. For subsystems, I have an idea stuck in my head for better modeling incarceration via a Prisoner 'profession,' and I'm curious what systems you think could be modeled in more detail.
I would be baffled if there wasn't some kind of representation of 1848 and the Paris commune.
Hard to know what to improve before it is out. For alt-history you can just start planning otoh.
I'm hoping that, if it isn't modelled correctly in game, there is a mod for a mechanic which accurately depicts the rise of reaction and fascism in correlation to socialist/communist activity (revolutions, unrest, political developments, etc). In V2, it was just another ideology which popped up near the end-game, which is a bit... misleading? In general, there needs to be a mechanic which represents "waves", like revolutions in the aftermath of WWI and the aftermath of those.
