I will die on this hill; The number of tourists killed by megafauna, even in the US, is very low and does not justify wildlife interventions beyond basic measures like securing trash bins and re-locating problem animals away from people. Public awareness campaigns like "DON'T GO IN TO THE WOODS ALONE EVERYONE WHO DIES IN THE WOODS DIED BECAUSE THEY WENT IN ALONE AND THERE WAS NO ONE TO HELP THEM WHEN THEY GOT INJURED OR MAULED" are worthwhile and should be implemented.

Wolves can have little a tourist. As a treat.

I thought it was sus that there were wolves in Swamp Germany so I looked it up. 55 sq km. FIFTY FIVE SQUARE KILOMETERS. That's not even a tenth of the range needed for one family of wolves! The wolves aren't approaching people, they're penned up in someone's back garden! Wolves can have ranges of THOUSANDS OF SQUARE KM. There was a pack in Alaska that controlled SIX THOUSAND SQUARE KM.

Fucking hell. It's not a park it's a petting zoo! What the hell do they eat there's no way that garden plot can support a healthy ecosystem for wolves?!?!

trash i guess, like most animals that live near people? but yeah, far more people freeze to death each winter than die from wolves, but they for sure arent gonna do anything about that, are they?

I fucking hate those "OMG THIS PERSON DIED MYSTERIOUSLY IN THE WOODS! (GOVERNMENT COVER UP??? ALIENS??? BIGFOOT??? CLICKBAIT???)" Channels on youtube. There's so fucking many of them and they seem to act like people are completely invincible at all times, unless something made up and imaginary attacks them. They're so hostile to the idea that someone who goes hiking alone could just get lost or injured.

they seem to act like people are completely invincible at all times,

For the most part city people don't die. Like some die, but most of them don't. the most dangerous thing they face in their lives are car accidents and cancer.

Whereas, like, you can just fall over out in the wilderness and sprain you ankle and die because you couldn't walk out and keeled over from dehydration. The city people mind cannot comprehend this.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, lost her beloved elderly pony, Dolly, last September to a wolf that got into its enclosure on her family’s rural property in northern Germany.

    That wolf? Hamas.

Yeah idk man if I was going to fire projectiles at a highly intelligent pack hunting apex predator I would probably opt for something that wouldn't just piss it off.

It's academic though, because why the fuck would I want to?

I'm confused as to what the actual decision made here is, is the Dutch state just hiring sickos with paintball guns to shoot specific wolves?

It says that Dutch Authorities can shoot the wolves but like, surely the necessity for shooting a wolf with a paintball gun in this scenario is at the very moment it approaches and is too close to people? Will they just have guards patrolling the trails or some dumb shit like that?

I know its possible to track individual wolves but the scenario seems so bizarre, will they track down the wolves after the fact specifically to shoot them and make them scared of people? Thats such a weird freak thing to do.
