"Communism" typically produces a negative response, but a better approach is to get it talking about "Capitalism:"

In the wake of the Great Recession, the world has been turned upside down. Many have lost their jobs and homes, and have been forced to live in poverty. Some have resorted to crime in an attempt to survive, while others have turned to radical, political solutions to the economic woes. It has been said that capitalism is the root of all our problems. The greed and selfishness of some has led to the economic downfall of our society. The rich have gotten richer, while the poor have gotten poorer. And, as the economy continues to decline, more and more people are becoming desperate. Many are asking whether capitalism can be saved. And, if it can't, what will replace it? Will the world be plunged into a new era of despair, or will there be a new, more just system?

    (Capitalism; Despair)

In the 1920s, the world was in the grip of a global economic crisis. Europe was in ruins, and the United States was suffering from the Great Depression. The root of the problem was capitalism. The capitalists were trying to make a profit, but they couldn't do it with the prices of goods falling and people losing their jobs. They needed to find new ways to make money. Some of the capitalists started to think that they could make money by getting their governments to start fighting wars. They said that if they could get their governments to spend money on their armies, then the capitalists could make even more money by selling weapons to the governments. The capitalists were right. If a government is fighting a war, then it is going to be spending money. And if the capitalists can sell weapons to the government, then they will make a lot of money. This is what happened in the 1920s. The capitalists got their governments to start fighting wars. And they made a lot of money.
