Hi everyone,
I'll be moving to Hangzhou, China in a little over a month to do a postdoc. Does anything know what VPN I should be using there? From a google search, it seems that people are recommending Express VPN but I get the impression that a lot of these recommendations were sponsored.
Thanks!
Mullvad is also prettygood, you can sent them an envelope with cash if you want to stay anonymous.
Seconding mullvad. Been using them for awhile and like them a lot
Fourthing. I am not aware of another service that approaches their technical ability and practice.
Their website is giving an SSL error for me when I went to check it out :yea:
Double-check that you're going to https://mullvad.net
If it still doesn't work, try your phone with wifi turned off
You need one that supports ShadowSocks. Nord, Surfshark, express vpn, windscribe all have it.
Regular OpenVPN maybe blocked. Surfshark which I've used in the past had "Stealth" mode which modifies packets so it's not blocked by GFW.
WindScribe has a single location plan for 2 dollar a month, maybe go for Hong Kong location?
Maybe use one that isn't from a western company and isn't hosted in a western country.
This is the one I use when I want to use a VPN: https://www.vpngate.net/en/
protonvpn are pretty good they handle your data according to Swiss privacy laws
protonmail is cia https://encryp.ch/blog/disturbing-facts-about-protonmail/
are there any email services that won't send your info to intelligence agencies? I just assume that they all do regardless of how much super duper encryptiony shit they promise but maybe I'm wrong
Thanks for linking this article, first good points against them that I've seen
I'm kinda curious about their other site though (they mention writing another article about ProtonMail in the blog post). I'm getting some crank vibes from the articles. The way ProtonMail loves taking down random blog posts criticizing them is suspicious, though.
The about section, and the one where they talk about being censored - but it's been a while since I looked at it, so I'd recommend digging into it to judge for yourself
About looks fine to me and he IS getting sued. It's just a single guy that has a background in security.
