Honestly, the inverse would have made more sense when discussing water rights. The southwest continually wants to drain the great lakes watershed dry in order to maintain capitalist excess in literal deserts.
Humans should not live there in the same way they expect to live in most other places. If you wanna live in the desert, make humidity collection systems and live sustainably in caves, don't build fucking Las Vegas and then demand that the government destroy quite possibly the only ecosystem that could survive climate change in order to maximize your profits and build more stupid glass pyramids.
