I had zero interest in meal replacements until now - surreally enough it's my lunch time. I learned there are hot meal replacements. Cold or room temperature meal replacements are entirely unappealing to me.
i hate to be the one to tell you this, but these meal replacements... are actually just meals jsyk
Not these, but I've had similar MREs which as far as I can tell are the same thing. My brother got me some for hiking and they do kinda slap as far as hiking food goes.
I bought the drink powder. It tastes fine but I add a sweetener like stevia. The consistency is a little gritty but not bad. The main problem I had with it was that it made me crazy gassy. And it didn't improve with time. Ymmv though
Seems to me like we're just on the march to eating compressed bug discs
not having a nice meal so you can attend more meetings is not in fact a win
I've got huel that I add as a nutrient booster to oatmeal/smoothies/soups. It's good as a flavourless thickener/protein powder or substitute for when I'd otherwise eat something unhealthy out of convenience. When I had a mild case of COVID and lost my taste for a week, it was the food I could eat enough of.

These are pretty good too. I use them in lieu of normal ramen as the same healthier convenience food option. They have a slightly bitter taste which I offset by adding in something with umami.
If I otherwise got fast food, I'd be eating something less nutritious that's just cornlet. If I otherwise just ate oatmeal without huel in it, it'd be less nutritious oatmeal that tastes the same. May as well.

I've been trying to use my slow cooker a lot more of the time for three main reasons. One, what you said. Two, it's cheaper. Food costs where I live are crazy. Three, I've trying to actually cook as opposed to boiling water or opening a can of soup. After work I'm going to have Japanese curry brisket. I put it in the cooker this morning and it's waiting for me.
But it's still true that something "in between" real food and other options appeals to me.
Meal replacements are alright, when I didn't cook as consistently I'd have it for breakfast because my commute was a fuck. Beyond the techbro shit I feel like there's an actually useful product there. The power mixes decently well with kratom, never tried it hot tho.
Oh god, I remember "HUEL". I remember they did a product trailer thing that was just two white dudes with dreadlocks talking about how food was too spicy or some shit lol
I think I'm okay. I don't have dreadlocks and I like spicy food.
