It's not a big hassle in my experience, and depending on how much room you have or are willing to dedicate you can get a grow tent or build a space bucket (r/spacebuckets). A little LED light to get stared should be under $100. Otherwise the only things you really need are soil and a pot. Bonus points for nutrients and pH strips, but you could start without if you wanted to just get the hang of it.
No guarantees but I'd bet that the majority of bag seeds are female — serious growing operations will cull any males well before they start producing pollen, so the most common way you'll wind up with seeds is if one of the flowering female plants herms and self-pollinates (or gets pollinated by a nearby female plant) and seeds with two mothers will always be female.
