    I was very, very quiet about my belief that Russia was going to invade Ukraine. It was less a “told you so” and more a quiet Cassandra-like dread I kept to myself.

    I'll fully admit that I was very wrong about this. I really didn't think Putin would go that far.

      I still don't understand why the Russian oligarchy did this. Donbass I understand, but what was there to gain from full invasion? This might long term shape the Asian Block, the anti-NATO block, but I don't see any positives for Russia itself. Neither short nor long term.

        Yeah, it doesn't really make sense to me, though maybe the goal is to publicly call NATO/US's bluff and make an example out of Ukraine to prevent any similar attempts at NATO expansion in the future. I suppose that would make sense, though it still seems pretty risky.

          and has an averse effect, with the US now refocusing on EU, and shifting towards more NATO aggression there. Never been so easy for the west to rally the people behind nato/anti-Russia actions
