:agony-deep:
Not if they insist on still being black while trying to get into Poland
Big deal. Real talk, Poland heroically canceled a world cup qualifier vs Putin's Russia. What an inspiration.
And the F1 won't race in Russia. They will still race in Saudi Arabia, despite them attacking Yemen for years now. The amount of bravery is astounding.
Fret not for the chess Olympiad also will not be played in Moscow now. Pay no mind to the UAE hosting the recent world championship a couple months ago.
If they go as far as not allowing Russian players to participate, that very much slashes like half of the existing super GMs, including the ones that are clear contenders for the world championship, like Nepo or Dubov. It would be anything short of a sham.
Russia still has great chess players and ya stoping them would be ridiculous. Most of the Russian super GMs minus Karjakin have atleast said war bad. Which is such an obvious take it stuns me when people don't take it.
Europe try not to be cartoonishly racist for a little while challenge (impossible)
Polish border guards regularly hunt refugees from the middle east (Belarus flies them in as the EU has promised to accept all refugees from Belarus)
the news was at one point framing this as Belarus's fault exclusively as if subjecting refugees to the Polish border guards was the same as letting them loose in a forest with wolves framing the Polish as having no agency in the matter of them hunting refugees in the same woods the Nazis hunted Jews
They were used as pawns. Belarus was refusing to allow the refugees to to back to Belarus or even their own countries for a while but then eventually sheltered them. Not sure what happened since
It's not as nice as you think. Belarus was trying to fuck with it's neighbours by tricking people by saying that they are accepting everyone at border crossings, then preventing them from turning back when they arrive and realize that it wasn't true.
The students would legitimately be safer if they just stay put and let the fighting pass over them. Insane amount of propaganda convinced everyone that Russia is out to kill everything when in reality they put so much restrain that civilian traffic still goes on while tanks fight each other in the streets.
Just to be clear, driving by an active combat zone is not a safe thing to do.
While we're at it, it's too early to tell how this whole thing will unfold. Even if the Russians roll into Kiev and install a puppet government, we cannot know if this won't devolve into another Syria situation in the mid-long term. If I were a foreign student there I'd be willing to lose a semester of credit and skedaddle until it's clear how this goes down.
Yeah no. Ukraine is actively trying to get civilians to fight Russia. It is far more unsafe to stay alongside Ukrainians right now since they are all trying to become militants.
Russia is bombing major cities, I have had a friend die when a Russian rocket hit his apartment building. Whether it was on purpose or not, lots off collateral deaths happen
Lol I get that people have a hate boner for Poland for some reason on here, but America rigging the elections after the USSR collapse and causing the decade of despair has more to do with Putin today then Poland joining Nato. Poland and Russia have hated each other long before America was even a thought in someone's head
Unironically, if you check the info, it was the Ukrainian border guards who were doing that, but I also chalk lots off it to language misunderstandings and people thinking that they are being pushed back due to race when it's a "women and child first" policy.
I don’t have a “hate boner” for Poland, but Poland is a pretty right wing country.
Just classic Slavophobia. Certain people have an agenda against Poland, but we are not some right wing hell hole.

Not saying that it isn't happening, but there is tons off confusion on the border because off everything. Lots off misunderstandings due to language differences, etc. Some people might perceive something as racism when it's not
That’s true. But considering this is Poland we’re talking about, I’ll assume the worst case scenario until further notice
So you just have some preconceived image off how Polish people are. Cool.
Poland has a reactionary government. Why would I assume they’re not being racist?
What else do you have to discuss? You hate Polish people, just go on your way
