It seems that we have a few game developers on Hexbear, so I was wondering if there'd be any interest in a community game jam. I'm thinking a week-long jam where the submitted games would have some sort of left-wing theme (I actually have one in mind, though I obviously don't want to spoil it). Winners in various categories and overall winner could be decided by a community vote.
I might submit my own game for this jam if it gets off the ground, but I would disqualify my entry from voting because being the host and knowing the theme ahead of time would give me an unfair advantage.
EDIT: Sounds like we have a fair amount of interest, so I'll make a follow up post tomorrow and ask the mods to pin it.
EDIT 2: Thanks mods for the sticky!
i have no idea how people get so much stuff done so fast in game jams, i take like months to do anything meaningful in my personal projects
Using the right platform helps. I can get things done very quickly in Godot.
same. I like to write stuff from scratch so it takes a while to make anything substantial to happen
@Nakoichi pin this, we need more good vibes and camaraderie
Woah also someone should probably remove a couple of the existing pins lmao
I don't know if you're the one to tell this to, but your name is first in the list of mods so get rekt
sounds fun, would definitely need to find some time off or something for something like that though. haven't touched my game in almost a year because of work now.
It would be cool if we had an agitprop modding community. I say this as someone who is extremely flaky and hasn't done modding in ages
I will enter if it can have a text interface as I can not make graphic art.
I am also willing to help any other with programming question :stalin-approval:
I don’t know how to make video games, so I’ll be submitting my custom card game that uses :joker-dancing: instead of kings and queens. Everyone just has to give me their address so we can all play.
we should crowdsource for a prize pool and donate half to an aid org helping get africans out of ukraine
I like this idea! I've never organized such a thing so I'd probably need some help with it, though.
See if you can't get the mods to help you by stickying a post about it requesting what help you need? I'm sure we could whip up a volunteer team
If you are thinking "ohhh idk how to make a wittle game its swo hawd"
NO, try experimenting with one of these its fun
