Also, he's gay! He was gay pre-Stonewall! He was put in a concentration camp by the government during WW2 and then had to hide his sexuality for a good part of his life because he might have then been jailed or worse if he'd come out.
I will say that I admire his grace in dealing with these issues personally, but the liberal civility fetish makes him an utter clown at best and a dangerous propagandist at worst.
