The number of people embracing full fascist social Darwinism towards the poor and immunocompromised is depressing and heartbreaking to say the least.

People should be protesting the poor response to COVID and the poor containment methods/ lack of government support. But nope, people protest about having to give a shit about other people and the flow of their precious treats. Astroturfed or not it still sucks.

We lost the mask mandate where I live recently. It was kind of sad to see most people just ditching the mask with the few who are in the most danger of covid left to fend for themselves.

Like at my work the only customers wearing a mask were a elderly lady and a woman who had cancer. I can't help but feeling that not wearing a mask is a big "fuck you I don't care if you die" to these people.

Just losing faith in humanity here, as a treat. Really makes me not want to take part in society at all.

Humans are born free, the chains come later. It's capitalism and its consequences that I hate, not humanity in general. That one of the consequences happens to be dumbass humans is... unfortunate.

I really am thinking about not taking part in society at all. I'm high risk so wtf am I meant to do, isolate for the rest of my life? Constantly fending off hostility from people who want me to take the mask off and deepthroat my dose of covid? I've been watching all these videos of people living cheaply off the grid and wondering if that could seriously be the move for me... Just give up and go full hermit because everyone in this country wants me dead anyway. It makes me horribly sad - I always wanted to fall in love with a girl and get married, and now I don't see how that's possible if I have to avoid everyone forever.

People are dumdums and don’t think about that :sadness: a lot of struggles go unnoticed if they are not on tv

After prodding they usually are :shrug-outta-hecks: I think some thoughts just don’t enter people’s head, I once managed to convince a homophobic guy that gay marriage/civil union is good due to rights of patients and emergency contacts, not as love expression (despite being extremely fucking obvious that clinical emergency rights are precisely expression of love and trust)

I see no-maskers the way I see drunk drivers.

It's the same kind of malevolent selfishness, the same kind of "fuck you, no one is going to tell me what to do, my treats are more important than your life." I despise them and I have already stopped talking to anyone I knew that thinks that way.

If anything, anti-maskers are worse than drunk drivers. At least drunk drivers haven't formed a political movement to force everyone to drive drunk. (You do not, under any circumstance, "gotta hand it to em", etc., etc.).

It's as if anti-smoking ban activists gained all that, and if smoking was more contagious then then the flu, and you couldn't tell who a smoker was.

i view anti-mask people the same way i view people who advocate firing wildly into a crowd

“I’m not guaranteed to hit someone, and If they aren’t fast enough to duck it’s their problem, how dare people impose on my freedom”

It's crazy how even people who recognize that the US' response to covid is a complete disaster are 100% confident that the US will only do good things if it also invades Ukraine

    Yeahhh between people's responses to:

    • COVID restrictions
    • The Ukraine/Russia war
    • Helping the working class ever
    • Trans people, God forbid, just peacefully existing

It's been hard recently to not just return to the edgy "I hate people" emo kid I used to be in high school
