so from what I understand it was mostly conservative sites (and LibsofTiktok) identifying her as a trans woman - because she has used the alias "Jeffrey Escalante" in the past. Fox News of course came out with a story "Lakewood Church shooting suspect identified as transgender woman," alleging (based on what I don't know) that she was born in Honduras as "Jeffrey Escalante" - a man. Now they've completely edited that story to say she is a cis woman. Houston Police Department is saying she has always identified as a woman - a conclusion they came to "talking with individuals, interviews, documents."
Police could also be being shitty but it seems as of now the official story is she was a cis woman. Although supposedly she had the words "Palestine" written on her gun so can't wait for the right to latch on to that.
