but you have to pay for usenet/indexers (not saying its bad i love usenet too), but torrents are free and ez to use for most people who want more compressed movies/shows.
torrents are free
I pay about $6/mo for a VPN, so my ISP doesn't harass me every time I download a Disney thing.
that's a bold move for a company that has very little anyone wants to watch on it anymore
Marketing and revenue have zero idea how to handle the concept that Netflix WAS super popular, and now a bunch of people just sort of are used to it as a recurring fee and don't think about it at this point. I'd bet a bunch of them somehow think they must be doing something correctly, and aren't considering this at all.
If they keep pushing they'll lose more and more of this apathy-based subscription that's keeping them afloat lol.
Yeah, at this point, the worst thing I can imagine Netflix doing is reminding people that they're paying for it. That's a problem that will keep getting worse too, as younger more tech savvy people are unwilling to enter their system at all in favor of more quasi-legal ways to access media. I don't know all that many young people that pay for their own Netflix, and if mine were to get cut off, I wouldn't go get my own sub, I'd forget it existed in the first place.
Literally happened with mine lol and did the same thing
The biggest thing I like about netflix is getting exposed to a ton of stuff from around the world. South Korea (how do we not have a burning flag emoji for them) has tons of cool shows, germany has bunches of stuff I would have never heard of. I've gotten to see stuff from Brazil and Bolivia and a bunch of other countries. Most of the stuff is netflix original so I really appreciate being exposed to all of those shows and movies. But yeah other then international (non english) programing netflix doesn't have a lot going for it.
What are your favorite German shows? I liked Dark but that's the only one I've really been hooked on.
I second Babylon Berlin, I have a huge crush on liv Lisa fries because of it
Also Inheritance is Austrian and really good, kind of like a euro take on Succession
Tribes of Europa was good, kinda standard post apocalyptic show but cool to see how other countries imagine it. And the bad guy is basically an Amazon AI. I watched the first few episodes of Barbarians and it seem really cool, an actual German take on the history of the early Germanic tribes interactions with the Romans. There were a few German movies I liked but I can't find the titles now. If you're looking for some other stuff To the Lake is a Russian post apocalyptic show. Ghoul is an Indian horror mini-series that I remember really liking. 3% is a Brazilian dystopian series, the first two season are really good, the third season feels like it was just tacked on and not really worth watching.
Thanks (and thank you to the other responses, as well). I'll check those out.
Bold move for Netlix within a week or so of Russia declaring themselves a haven for copyright infringement.
Russia is good at declaring, but slow at actually providing. Rutracker hasn't been unblocked yet and it's a pain in the ass with all Tor bridges being blocked.
Fair enough. With tor in particular, I imagine the state probably still views it as a threat, while little harm can come by way of free Hollywood movies and video games.
Funny thing is that torrent sites are the main reason I have to boot up Tor.
Yeah. I don't torrent through tor. I use Tor to go to torrent sites to look for magnet links.
I'm pretty sure this is every netflix user that shares their account lol.
Streaming services and e-shops actively driving people back to piracy :sankara-salute:
Waiting for the day where I see how much they’re charging me and instantly cancel in a rage. They already block VPNs. I need to just pay for a seed box and a decent hard drive
Netflix's stock price has fallen about 50% since November (still not cheap) and their earnings announcement is in about a month. I bet they're losing a bunch of subscribers since they just raised their rate and want to tell shareholders something they want to hear along with the bad news.
I bet they’re losing a bunch of subscribers since they just raised their rate
I suspect its not subscriber loss so much as a big slow down in gain. They're approaching market saturation, and at $12/mo you're talking about half a movie ticket for a huge constantly updating library of content.
I'd suspect Netflix is going to move towards cost cutting and price gouging now that they're in this dominant position. But I doubt they're at any risk of a user exodus any time soon.

great new TV and films for our membersgold plated yachtsI dont think ive ever heard that series be described as such. Why do you think it was boring?
Because it was slow and dull and nothing fucking happened except people looking sullen while it rained in the forest. Any show where people say you have to watch 5 seasons for a payoff is a fucking scam. If ya enjoyed it, great. Not for me.
Are we talking about the same show? Theres only 3 seasons and it had solid payoffs throughout.
I mean if you didnt dig it, thats fine...just never heard someone dislike it for the reasons youre mentioning
I always describe Dark as everything Lost wished it could have been.
One of the problems with any TV discourse is listening to a bunch of anime geeks tell me how my historical dramas, sci-fi thrillers, and office comedies suck.
Nobody with any taste likes My Hero Academy. Stop pretending your opinions matter.
I found out about Fmovies from my 12 year old son lmao. I'm proud of him.
hmmm im sure the fact my family canceled our streaming subscription after 14 years is purely coincidental
Same, I canceled a few weeks ago after having a constant subscription since 2010. The price hike up to $20 a month for 4k streaming is unreasonable when there's other options.
(we cut cable tv asap lol)
prolly saved me some brain rot since i almost never watched ads :D
Cool, all the more reason to finish installing Linux on my htpc and forgo streaming platforms altogether forever
Anyone feel free to DM me if ya want help setting up a complete "solution" to all streaming services being garbage.
Not surprised. Netflix made fortune by being the first major streaming company, but now streaming is basically a solved problem every company that owns shows and movies is eager to get onto the field and the days of Netflix enjoying superprofits are far gone.
the days of Netflix enjoying superprofits are far gone.
“Sir, we’re no longer dominating the market. Should we innovate?”
“Inno-what? This is the free market. Jack up the prices!”
The innovation they were going for was making a ton of their own movies and shows but obviously that doesn't make money the way being the only game in town for streaming did.
