Yeah, I got simlish vibes. I still kind of have an ear for when people speak Japanese like a white person. It's very drawly, and there's a tendency to put random dipthongs all over the place. Obviously very common in the "anime fan" community.

hi clip of that italian variety show with the memorably jerking dance motions and indistinguishable language. it's been a while.

the lady after the hairdresser/comedian is hysterical. apart from it being meaningless, the tone and pitch totally sounds like a suburban WASPy rando on their phone at the grocery store. it really stands out against her normal speaking voice.

Honestly it's weird that most japanese don't speak English. Sure, Japanese is very different from European languages making leaning harder, but so is Hebrew and most Israelis, particularly the younger generation, speak English well.

Classroom teachers who barely speak English backed up by English speakers who don't have any education qualifications is certainly... a way of doing things.

Does not help that the government had no incentive to improve things because their buddies in the private sector are making a killing trying (and failing) to patch up the gaps.

I really love things like this. Language is so fascinating like the fact the human brain can parse these weird noises our mouths make j to information is already wild. Then you see the differences in languages and how a different language can be so foreign and different yet somehow the same human mind can process both equally naturally given the right environment.

Plus it's fun to hear what random words or things from a different language has made it's way into people's minds without context.

I also love the one at like 3:55 where she just like cries into the microphone. Apparently foreigners speaking English are so animated and love to yell lol.

Anyway sometimes I wish I studied linguistics more.

this is so good. my argentinian ex used to make fun of english as well and it was always so good.

he would always try to do a "boston" accent since that's where I lived (didn't grow up there, nor do i have a boston accent)

When a white person walks around Japan, kids will yell these sounds at them at full volume.
