I don't want to mess with the ecosystem of things, but I'd like to be nice and leave it and unsalted seeds and nuts if that won't hurt the little fluff ball.

There's a fence line it runs sometimes and I was just thinking of leaving a hazelnut or whatever.

My question is, can this be dangerous to the squirrel or my local environment?

    an unsalted nut here or there won't hurt. just don't overfeed the little fella.

    Unless you're putting out so much food that you're completely swamping the local ecosystem and causing squirrel obesity, you're probably good.
